Double Sofabed by Robin Day for Hille

Stylish and minimalist mid century sofa bed designed by iconic British designer Robin Day in the 1950s for Hille. Originally called the Convertible Bed-Settee, this piece was specifically designed with young people in mind who often lived in smaller spaces where dual-purpose space-saving furniture was a must and for this reason it won a Design Centre Award in 1957. The sofa has solid mahogany arms and black metal legs. There are two chrome plated arms attached to its backrest that allow it to rotate backwards converting it into a very comfortable double bed.

The item has been refinished and is generally in very good condition with the odd sign or wear and tear. It has been reupholstered in a teal wool fabric by Abraham Moon with new firm foam on the backrest and mattress.
